For 17 years, cake-decorating instructor Kelly Frosting has shared her love for cooking with people of all ages. Now, for the second year, Frosting is taking her passion to Clayton State University, for a "Teen Cake Camp" in which she'll teach teens the in's and out's of the cake-decorating business.

"Last year I did two camps, and they were sell-outs," said Frosting.

Frosting said she enjoys teaching all of the tips and tricks she has learned over the years. "I don't hold anything back," she said.

The instructor said students will learn how to mix and paint with royal icing, buttercream, fondant, and gum paste. "They'll get a little exposure to everything," said Frosting.

In addition, students will learn how to look at a cake and break down the design process, so they can create a similar "masterpiece" at their own skill level.

Frosting added that not only is the class about acquiring cooking skills and cake-decorating skills, but it's also about having fun in the process. She said there will be a "fantasy" theme for each class session. "We'll take color concepts from Twilight, Alice in Wonderland, and other films to create a topsy turvy cake," said Frosting.

The ‘topsy turvy' cake is a "dummy cake" on Styrofoam, which usually sits as the display cake people see in windows. The "dummy cake" is embellished with gumpaste, royal icing and fondant. Frosting said the students will create a "dummy cake" during the entire week of camp. "The ingredients used to create the dummy cake will last up to year." said Frosting.

However, in order to attend the camp, Frosting said there are a few supplies students will have to purchase. She said the list of items will be e-mailed to students prior to class.

The "Teen Cake Camp" will take place June 20, through June 24, from 1 p.m., to 4 p.m. at Clayton State University, located at 2000 Clayton State Blvd., in Morrow. The camp is $149 for all sessions.
