Local attorney to serve on Board of Governors

A Jonesboro attorney has been elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia.

Martin L. Cowen III was elected and installed June 4 during the bar's annual meeting at Myrtle Beach, S.C. Cowen will serve in the Clayton Judicial Circuit, Post 3 seat on the board.

Cowen graduated from University of Georgia's law school and was admitted to the bar in 1975. He is a past vice president of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a past president of the Clayton County Bar Association.

Cowen is a sole practitioner in criminal defense and elder law.

The Board of Governors is the 160-member, policy-making authority of the bar, with representation from each of Georgia's judicial circuits. The board holds regular meetings five times a year.
