The U.S. Air Force recently announced that Air Force Airman 1st Class Irving J. Turner, a 2009 graduate of Mundy's Mill High School, has graduated from an eight-week basic military training course at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Jonesboro resident, Patricia Turner.

Clayton County Public Schools will offer free breakfasts and lunches for children between the ages of 4 and 18, Monday through Friday, from June 6, to July 1, at Lake Ridge Elementary School, located at 7900 Lake Ridge Circle, in Riverdale. Meals will be offered to people over the age of 18, at a cost of $1.50 for breakfast, and $2.50 for lunch. The meals are being offered as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's "Seamless Summer Meals" program. Call (678) 479-0171, for more information.

The White House Academy, Inc., located at 191 South Main St., in Jonesboro, will hold a summer camp for area youths from May 23, through June 30. Each week, the camp will be held Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m., to 5 p.m., and participating youngsters can enjoy activities that focus on science, computer programming, business and career development, culinary arts, music and entertainment, fashion and design, health and fitness, and juvenile law. The participants will also play sports and take field trips. The academy will host academic support programs for children in the third- through tenth-grades. The summer camp and academic support programs are free, and open to students who attend low-achieving Title I schools in Clayton County, and who qualify for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Free and Reduced Lunch program.
