Luther Vandross once proclaimed "here and now, I promise to love faithfully."

Now, a large painting of a smiling Vandross, created by painter Denise Wood, hangs in the Arts Clayton Gallery, as part of an exhibit titled "Here and Now."

The "Here and Now" exhibit, where contributing artists gave their interpretations on living in the present, is one of two exhibits that opened this month at the gallery, located at 136 South Main St., in Jonesboro.

The other new exhibit at the gallery is "Pearls: The Tin Type Photography of Will Fenn," which features pictures taken by Georgia State University professor Will Fenn using the tin-type process.

Fenn said he was previously the judge for Arts Clayton's 2010 Juried Photography competition. Both exhibits are scheduled to last through July 15, according to the gallery's web site.

During a June 10 opening reception for both exhibits, awards were given out for the top art in the "Here and Now" competition. The winners were: "One Down, Two to Go," by Pat Burns (first place); "Head Study With Scarf" by Andrew Henry (second place); "Summer Magic" by Kay Ridge (third place), and Wood's "Here and Now" (patron's award).
