Wilcox won't make cut at U.S. Open

He qualified for the U.S. Open earlier this week, but Will Wilcox, the former Clayton State golf standout, won't be around for the last two rounds of golf's second major at Congressional Country Club in Maryland.

Still Wilcox won't finish his second round of golf until Saturday morning. Wilcox was among several golfers still on the course Friday when play was stopped because of rain and darkness.

With two holes left to play, Wilcox, a member of the Nationwide Tour, is 12-over par. The projected cut is four over par.

Wilcox, who qualified to get into the event earlier this week, was eight over par after Thursday's round, and is four-over par after 16 holes of play on Friday.

The former Clayton State standout has just two birdies this week, both coming on the par four No. 8 Thursday and Friday.

Friday's second round was a little better as he had 10 pars, including six in a row.

Wilcox is expected to return to the Nationwide Tour for the remainder of the season. He has earned an exception on the Nationwide Tour for the rest of the season.
