Jimmy Kite returned to racing Saturday in the USACA Silvercrown Series for the first time since 2005.
Racing in Milwaukee, Kite finished 12th in the 100-mile race.
Before the race,Kite, who has ties to Stockbridge, said on several websites he was out to prove he was not retired.
Kite burst on the racing scene in 1997 at the Indy 500. He raced in the sports most prestigious s race four times and made 30 starts in IRL (Indy Racing League).
His best finish in the IRL series was 22nd in 2005.
Kite made the jump to the NASCAR Truck Series in 2005 where he made four starts.
He had hoped to qualify again for the Indy 500 in 2007 and 2008, but was unable to secure a ride.
Since getting out of racing full time, Kite founded a retail business JK Hobby World.
