Age: 78

Mr. James Edward Jones, 78, of Locust Grove, passed away June 21, 2011. Jim was born in Newport, Tenn., to the late James Isaac Jones and Willa Edna McKnight Jones. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Guinn. He was a member of Community Bible Church, and retired after 46 years with Simmons Mattress Company, where he was known as “Snowball.” He was a Master Mason since 1973. He was a member of Riverdale Masonic Lodge # 709, from which he received the 2001 Mason of the Year Award, and the 2000 and 2001 Appreciation Awards. He also was a member of Riverdale Eastern Star # 446, a Dual Member of Morrow Eastern Star # 531, and a Dual Member of Lakewood Lodge # 443, from which he received the 2008 Mason of the Year Award and the Appreciation Award for Faithful Service. He also was honored with numerous other awards. Jim was a people-person and enjoyed walks in his neighborhood, talking with his neighbors, spending time with his family, working in his garage, upholstering furniture, and was a Master Barber. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sue Jones; daughter, Jan Jones Kennedy and her husband, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Michael T. Kennedy; grandsons, Jason Michael Kennedy and Zachary Dakota “Zach” Kennedy; sister, Jeanette Jones Rush; brother, John T. (Ortell) Jones; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 25, at 11a.m., from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Pastor Brooks Everett will officiate. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, with Masonic Rites. Friends may visit the family Friday, from 2 p.m., to 4 p.m., and 6 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
