A Clayton County jury convicted a Rex man of the 2006 murders of two Ellenwood men, but two co-defendants are looking at a third trial as jurors failed a second time to reach a unanimous verdict on their charges.

Tyrone Brown, 28, was convicted on all charges in the March 20, 2006 deaths of Norris Degree and Stanley Brown at Cobblestone Flats Apartments on Rex Road in Ellenwood. He will be sentenced Friday morning. Under Georgia law, Brown faces a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole.

His co-defendants, Gary Hakeem Brown, 26, and Kevin Michael Brewington, 26, both of Massachusetts, face a third trial, said Clayton County prosecutor Jason Green.

"The jury was hung on Kevin Brewington, with 11-1 voting for guilty, and 9-3 for guilty on Gary Brown," said Green. "The state will be retrying the case."

After about 12 hours of deliberations in November 2009, jurors were unable to reach a verdict in the case against Gary Brown and Brewington. Tyrone Brown wasn't tried at that time because his attorney was jailed for contempt after telling the judge she was unprepared to defend the case.

All three have been locked up in the Clayton County Jail since their 2006 arrests.
