Funeral Home: Harts Mortuary and Crematory Franklin M. Suffridge passed away Saturday morning, June 25, 2011 in the Houston Medical Center at the age of 86. He was born in Jackson Dec. 7, 1924 to Harry P. Suffridge of Tazwell, Tenn., and Mary Dale Holifield of Jackson. He enlisted in the United States Navy June 7, 1942. He served aboard the USS LaVallette, DD 448, which saw combat in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged Feb. 10, 1946. He re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy Aug. 11, 1948 and served until Aug. 14, 1953. He worked overseas for many years with the Tumpane Company and then worked for many years with his brother, Jack Suffridge, in the Coggins and Mann print shop in Macon. He was active in the USS LaVallette association and the Tin Can Sailors association. He is survived by his ex-wife, Hannalore Suffridge of Washington, D.C., and his nephews, Phillip and Jack Antonio of Warner Robins, and close friends, Wes and Pearl Vereen of Macon. The family requests donations to your favorite veterans group in lieu of flowers. There will be a short graveside service Wednesday, June 29 at 2 p.m., in the family plot in the City Cemetery in Jackson. Harts Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street, has charge of the arrangements.More like this story
