The Riverdale concert series continues to draw crowds, despite both hot weather and rain showers, officials said.
"We experienced a few rain storms which were not in our plans," said Micah Hines, programs and events assistant, "but proved to ignite the concert-goers to enjoy themselves even more. Some of the attendees even declined the opportunity to come inside the Riverdale Center for cover to wait the rain out, just to keep a good seat for the show."
Popular artist Alex Lattimore was one of the first on the summer bill and praised officials for their efforts. "Thanks for having me at such a fantastic venue. You guys have done a wonderful job with it," he said. "I had an awesome time. I look forward to soon working with you again, if you'll have me."
Riverdale Mayor Evelyn Favors Wynn-Dixon was even spotted greeting and thanking everyone for coming out to the kick-off concert.
The Afterwork Cool Down series of concerts is free and will be presented from 6 p.m., to 9 p.m., on July 14, and 28; Aug. 11, and 25; and Sept. 8, and 22. There is a charge for the South City series. Tickets can be bought at the Riverdale Center for the Arts, Business and Leisure Services at 7210 Church St., or online at www.ticketalternative.com.
