From Staff Reports
Carver-Columbus assistant coach and defensive coordinator Olten Downs was hired Saturday as Riverdale's new head football coach.
Downs, 27, spent the past five seasons with Carver, which went 13-1 last season and featured one of the state's most high-profiled recruits in running back Isaiah Crowell, who signed with Georgia.
The news was first reported by the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.
"I really feel like I had a hand in how we built things at Carver, and I think I'm going into a similiar situation at Riverdale," Down told the Ledger-Enquirer. "There are quality players, they just need to be cultivated a little bit."
Riverdale went 2-8 last season under Nick Davis, who left after five seasons to take the same position at Spalding.
