The Holy Bible, God's Word, tells us in 2nd Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear them from Heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land."
Let's analyze this great verse, and see what it promises.
"If my people, who are called by my name ..." -- This not only addresses the Israelites, but all people who honor His name and pray to Him. It was to be a house of prayer for all people. This was the dedication of the great Temple of God, the LORD, the temple Solomon built to the honor and glory of the Lord. I believe that all Christians are included here, because the Lord Jesus was part of His Name -- the Trinity.
"... Will humble themselves and pray ..." To humble one's self means not to be proud or haughty and not pretentious. " ... And pray ..." This means to ask the Lord for forgiveness and mercy and to praise his Holy name.
" ... And seek my face ..." That is, believe in God with all your heart and earnestly want to please and honor Him. And turn from your wicked ways, and repent of your sins, turn from all other gods and worship the one true God only.
Our Great God then made some promises to His people, as He said: " ... then will I hear them from Heaven ..." This is a great truth that we can cherish, because He said He would hear our prayers! What a wonderful promise, straight from the pages of the Holy Bible!
Understanding this promise, we can know, with absolute surety, that when we pray and make our partitions known, when we praise His Holy Name, when we pray for others as they have asked that we do, we know He hears us.
" ... Forgive their sins ..." As we faithfully pray and confess our sins sincerely, we know He will forgive our sins. Even though we don't deserve forgiveness, even though we are not worthy, He forgives us completely and remembers our sin no more.
He will forget all the terrible things we have done or said or thought. Only God could do this. Just think of some awful treatment you have received from some one, and even though you may have forgiven them, you cannot forget. God forgives and forgets: Hebrews 8:12.
" ... Heal their Land ..." National repentance, prayer and reformation are required. National mercy is then promised, that God will forgive their sins and then heal their land. Pardoning mercy makes way for healing mercy. (Matthew Henry Commentary.) This to me is a fantastic promise! God promises to forgive our Nation's sins and heal our country.
If America ever needed healing, it is certainly needed now. Our Leaders don't seem to know what to do to get our nation out of this downward spiral we are in, and our problems are not just financial but moral. Many of our people do not trust in the Lord and seek to live their lives just as they please, regardless of the teachings of God.
They disregard the laws of our land and steal and murder and commit all sorts of sexual sins. They don't honor the institution of marriage, nor even the definition of marriage -- one man and one woman.
Our courts and legal organizations seek to take God out of our schools and every public place in the nation. I think it's high time our people and our nation repent of their sins and turn back to God. He has promised He will hear from heaven and forgive our sins and heal our land.
We can only do this one person at a time. Will you ask God for forgiveness?
