ELCA, ELHS ranked in state soccer polls

The high school soccer season might have just started, but for two girls teams in the Southern Crescent, it's all about state rankings.

Both the Eagle's Landing Christian and Eagle's Landing girls' teams are ranked in their respective Eurosports.com Coaches' poll.

At ELCA, the Lady Chargers are ranked fifth in the Class A poll. ELCA enters the week with a 4-1 record.

ELHS cracked the Class AAA poll in the No. 10 spot.

At ELCA, the Lady Chargers are on a roll. The team has won its last three games.

The recent hot streak includes two shutouts and plenty of offense. The Lady Chargers beat Woodland 8-0 and Stockbridge 10-0.

ELHS is 2-1-1 with impressive shutouts against Drew (10-0) and Luella (7-0). The Lady Golden Eagles also got a 1-1 tie agianst Ola (4-1)

Union Grove defense frustrates opponents: The Union Grove Lady Wolverines are off to a 7-1 start and they are doing it with a combination of offense and defense.

Through its first eight games, the squad has shutout six opponents and allowed just three goals. Offensively, the team has found the back of the net 39 times.

Unranked but on a roll: The Ola Lady Mustangs are not ranked in the Gasports.com Class AAAA poll as of Monday afternoon, but maybe they should be.

Ola has flexed its defensive muscles with four shutouts. Through its first five games, the Lady Mustangs have outscored their opponents 34-2.

Today, the Lady Mustangs have games at home against Dutchtown and Friday at Union Grove.


Dutchtown ranked in Class AAAA poll

The Dutchtown boys (3-0-1) are ranked eighth in the Class AAAA poll with an undefeated record.

For the Bulldogs, wins against Jones County (10-0), Sandy Creek (6-4) and Alcovy (6-1) and a tie against Berkmar (2-2) have helped propel the squad into the state rankings.

Lovejoy stays unbeaten: The Lovejoy Wildcats are unbeaten through three games. The squad's wins have all come against Clayton County teams, including Mundy's Mill (5-4), Forest Park (2-1) and Mt. Zion (6-0)

Eagle's fly high: The North Clayton Eagles have won three of their last four games with shutouts against North Springs (1-0) and Morrow (6-0). The fast start has moved the squad to a 3-1 record heading into this week's play. The team's only loss was against Tri-Cities in a 4-0 decision.

Others to watch: Luella (3-1-1) and Ola (3-2) enter the week with winning records among schools in Henry County.
