Clayton County firefighters were recently recognized their department during an awards ceremony.
About 90 firefighters were awarded for their above-and-beyond services, during the 10th annual "Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services Department Awards Ceremony."
"I had the distinct pleasure of recognizing members of this department who've taken my motto of ‘Let's go make a difference,' literally, very literally," said Interim Fire Chief Jeff Hood, of the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
There were more than 400 people in attendance, including the nominated firefighters, and their family members, according to Battalion Chief Jacque Feilke, of the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
Feilke added that all of the firefighters who were nominated received awards, such as the Cardiac Life Saving Award, Medal of Valor Award and Distinguished Service.
The spokesperson said that anyone within the department may nominate a firefighter, although nominations typically came from superiors.
Feilke explained that the ceremony included a slide show, which displayed various pictures of the firefighters working throughout last year.
She said it is important for the department to continue the annual ceremony, because it allows for recognition of the dedicated and superior services the nominated firefighters provide. It also boosts their morale, she added.
