Congressman David Scott (D-Ga.) recently announced that applications for the 2011 Congressional Black Caucus Scholarships are available online, said a spokesperson for the Office of Congressman David Scott.

These scholarships are open to students in Georgia's 13th Congressional District, which includes portions of Clayton, Henry, Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb, and Douglas counties, said Chandra Harris. High school seniors, as well as, full-time undergraduate, graduate and professional school students with a minimum 2.5 grade point average are eligible, she said.

Harris said to access the application, students should visit, www.cbc.finc.org/scholarships.

"I am pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for deserving 13th District students," added Scott in a written statement. "These scholarships present a wonderful opportunity to expand educational resources available for a new generation of scholars from our community."

Completed applications must be submitted by March 28, to Scott's Jonesboro District Office, at 173 North Main St., or his Smyrna District Office, at 888 Concord Road, Suite 100, said Harris.

The Congressional Black Caucus Scholarships were established in 1988, due to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships, said Harris.

"The scholarships are awarded in the congressional districts of each member of the Congressional Black Caucus," she explained.
