Eyvon Austin, 37, of Stockbridge, wanted to kick off her St. Patrick's Day celebration a little early, this year. She said she found a good opportunity to do so, when she saw a special offer at Bliss in McDonough, on Irish cream cupcakes.
"Buy five, get one free," said Austin. "That's the special for Facebook friends. I actually came to place an order for another birthday cake. I saw the special, and decided to take advantage of it."
Bliss is among 20 eateries, and other businesses in downtown McDonough, participating in the so-called "Leprechaun Hunt" in recognition of St. Patrick's Day, on Thursday, March 17.
Kim Scott, customer service manager at Bliss, said Austin is not alone in her desire to satisfy her sweet tooth with the Irish-themed cupcakes. Numerous area residents, Scott said, have come to the McDonough eatery in search of their own pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, in cupcake form.
"We have Irish cream cupcakes decorated with a Shamrock," said Scott. "They are rolling out of here as fast as we can get them in the case."
Another establishment, Chevy's Diner is inviting customers to celebrate on Thursday, with a pair of unique offerings. Neil Daniell, and his wife Erica, who co-own the restaurant, said green beer will be available on St. Patrick's Day, at Chevy's. In addition, he said there will be a ‘Happy Hour' special which includes a "Patty Melt," a burger with cheese on Texas toast.
Also in observance of St. Patrick's Day, The Main Street McDonough Program is conducting its annual Leprechaun Hunt, through Saturday. Linda Schenk, Main Street McDonough program director, said this week marks the second year for the hunt.
"Shop around the Square, find a Leprechaun, present a receipt from a participating business showing a purchase ..., and be a winner," said Cathy Lacey, an information specialist at the McDonough Welcome Center.
The little green men are hidden at businesses in the Main Street district, including Emily's Attic, the Secret Garden, Stacy's Closet, PJ's Cafe, and Blumen Trio.
Customers who find the leprechauns, Lacey said, will receive a $25 gift certificate.
Only one gift will be given, per leprechaun found, and one leprechaun redeemed per person. For more information call (770) 898-9868, or visit www.mainstreetmcdonough.com.
