Mundy's Mill continues historic run

Three teams from the Southern Crescent are ranked in the most recent Coaches' high school baseball polls.

For one team so far, it's been a historic start. The Mundy's Mill Tigers jumped into the state rankings for the first time in school history last week when they were ranked eighth in the Class AAAA poll.

They show no sign of letting up.

This week, the undefeated Tigers move up three spots to the N o. 5 spot.

The Tigers are getting it done with a combination of solid pitching and timely offense.

Mundy's Mill is 7-0 overall and 5-0 in Region 4-AAAA competition. The Tigers' closest game was a 10-9 win in the second game of the season.

On Monday, the Tigers knocked rival Jonesboro 6-2.

Mundy's Mill will get an out of state test this weekend when it plays Anniston, Al and Jeff Davis in Montgomery, Ala.

Luella takes tumble: The Luella Lions were ranked No. 1 in the Class AAAAA coaches poll last week.

This week, the Lions took a tumble, falling five places to the No. 6 spot in the Class AAAAA poll.

Luella (8-3) is trying to get back on track after losing two out of its last three games.

One of the losses was a 6-4 decision to Region 2-AAAAA rival East Coweta. The Lions also lost 7-6 to Lowndes in a non -region game.

East Coweta made a huge leap in the polls, moving up seven spots from the No. 8 spot to the top of the Class AAAAA rankings.

Lowndes was unranked last week, but is now ninth after beating Luella.

ELCA in Class A top 10: The Eagle's Landing Christian Academy Chargers held on to the No. 5 spot in the state rankings.

The Chargers are 7-1 overall and riding a five-game winning streak.

During the winning streak, the Chargers have outscored their opponents 47-9. The Chargers have shutout Stockbridge (10-0), First Presybertrian (7-0) and Pinecreast Academy 14-0.
