Lovejoy baseball coach Craig Chatman was certainly glad his team pulled out the 7-6 victory against Tri-Cities on Wednesday night, but he knows it probably shouldn't have been that close.
Chatman's club needed eight innngs and a little help to pull out the extra-inning victory against the Bulldogs.
Trailing by one run in the bottom of the eighth inning, Lovejoy scored on two passed balls to pull out the victory.
Ronivek Patterson scored the first run of the inning to tie the game, and then Kevion Peterson came home on the second passed ball of the inning.
Courtney Ward was the winnng pitcher for Lovejoy, finishing the game with 11 strikeouts and one walk.
Kenneth Hickey finished the game with two hits and three RBIs. Ward also helped his own cause with an RBI.
The Wildcats had their chances to blow the game open, but left the bases loaded in the second, fourth and seventh.
Lovejoy moves to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in league play.
