A program for senior citizens is expected to get a much-needed boost, through an upcoming benefit at a Henry County business.
Motorheads Bar and Grill, at 650 Macon St., in McDonough, will host "An Afternoon with the Dream King," a benefit for Henry County Senior Services' Meals on Wheels program.
The event, scheduled for April 9, at noon, will feature performances by an Elvis Presley impersonator.
Traci McDonald has been the owner and general manager of Motorheads for three years. She said the endeavor is designed to support a cause which is close to her heart. "I have donated every year to Meals on Wheels, and wanted to do something more to help them this year," said McDonald.
Tickets for the event will be sold for $10 in advance, and $12 at the door of the bar. Raffle prizes will also be available, said McDonald.
"All proceeds will go to Meals on Wheels," she reiterated.
Rita Green is the volunteer special events coordinator for Henry County Senior Services, which oversees the county's Meals on Wheels efforts. Green said she appreciates McDonald's support for the meals program, because it comes at a critical time.
"I'm ecstatically happy that they're willing to do this for us," said Green. "We're under a budget freeze for this fiscal year, until June, so we're not able to do any additional services at this time. This will help us to continue the meals programs that we have going on, and not have to cut any."
The Senior Services Department prepares 225 to 250 hot lunches -- including a meat, two vegetables, a bread, a fruit, and milk -- every day at the Heritage Senior Center in McDonough.
The meals, Green said, are delivered to residents along 21 routes in the county.
The agency's six staff members and 225 volunteers serve programs at senior centers in McDonough, Locust Grove and Stockbridge.
