Hicks, Ligayre Woodfin

Age: 88

Funeral Home: Ford-Stewart Funeral Home

Ligayre Woodfin Hicks Ligayre Woodfin Hicks was born Feb. 19, 1923, and had recently observed her 88th birthday at Golden Crest Assisted Living in Morrow. She was gently taken from this life into the glorious presence of her Lord and Savior, March 26, 2011, having been preceded in death by her husband, Troy S. Hicks, and son, Woody Hicks. She served the Lord with gladness for more than 80 years. Orphaned at an early age, she was reared by her older brothers and sisters. She attended the Berry Schools in Rome, Ga., while Miss Martha Berry was still living. It was there she met for her future husband, Troy, with whom she shared nearly 61 years of marriage. She was the perfect helpmate for her husband, who served as a Baptist deacon for some 48 years. Together, they helped others, in the old-fashioned Bible way, whether they were neighbors, friends, family, missionaries, or just those in need. Her delight was to prepare big family dinners at Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, birthdays and anytime her loved ones could gather. She loved little children, often volunteering to care for the church nursery as well as helping those in need, with care for their little ones. She was a long-time member of Locust Grove Baptist Church in Smyrna, and more recently, Hurt Road Baptist and New Testament Baptist. She read her Bible daily and enjoyed Bible preaching. Ligayre will be greatly missed by her survivors, including daughter, Elda Gay Elkins, and husband, Joe; grandson, Lonnie Wood and wife, Jeannine; granddaughters, Gay Lynne Wright, and Shirley Rivera and husband, Ernie; grandson, Joe T. Elkins; great-grandsons, Aubrey Wright, Bobby Wright, Nathan Wood and wife, Rebecca, Troy Wood, and Ernie Rivera, Jr.; great-granddaughters, Leanna Wright, Ansley Wood, Danielle Claudio and husband, Jason, and great-great-granddaughter, Hannah Wood, plus many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Ford-Stewart Funeral Home, 2047 Highway 138 SE, Jonesboro, Ga., on Wednesday, March 30, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Wendell Woodfin, Brother Joe D. Elkins, and Nathan Wood officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Park, Atlanta, Ga., immediately following.
