The Clayton State track and field program will make history today when it hosts its first ever meet at Tara Stadium.
Events are expected to start around 3:30 p.m.
The March Madness Tri-meet will feature athletes from Clayton State, Columbus State and Tuskegee. A handful of runners from the women's team at Georgia Southwestern are expected to participate.
"We are excited about the chance to have an event in our own backyard," said CSU head coach Mike Mead. "It is something we have never done before."
There's a slight twist to today's event. It will count as a "double-dual" competition, helping participating athletes fulfill requirements towards participating in enough events to qualify for the NCAA Sectionals should they have good enough times and distances.
Clayton State will also honor four seniors. On the women's side, Chelsea Ellis and Cherie Sayon are about to close out their track careers with the Lakers.
On the men's side, Fidelis Mutiso and Jarrid Casimir are about to close out their college careers.
