From Staff Reports
The Athletics Department at Clayton State University is adding a new sports camp to its repertoire this summer. The new camp will be a track & field camp offered for a half day, June 6-10 for youth ages 6-16.
"We've been wanting to do a track camp for some time and now seems the perfect time to get one going," said Clayton State's head track coach Mike Mead.
The camp will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Southern Crescent Stadium located adjacent to Drew High School in Riverdale.
The Clayton State track & field coaching staff, which has produced nine NCAA Division II All-Americans since 2002, will instruct the camp which will focus on proper warm-up routine, drills, flexibility and training for sprints, jumps and middle-distance. Instruction will also include starts, hand-offs and racing strategies for specific events.
Southern Crescent Stadium is the newest track & field facility in
Clayton County. It features an eight-lane synthetic track with a grass infield.
The cost of the camp is $75 per camper, but June 6 walk-up registration will be $85. A team rate is available. For complete camp details and information, including registration for the track & field camp as well as all of the Lakers' summer sports camp offerings, visit Clayton State's summer camp web site at http://athletics.clayton.edu/general/summercamps.htm.
