Officials said Monday that a two-car crash in Jonesboro on Friday caused a natural gas leak, and sent two to the hospital with serious injuries.
Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman Battalion Chief Jacque Feilke said two cars collided about 2 p.m. on Lake Jodeco Road just east of Suder Elementary School. One left the road and hit a utility box, which caused the gas leak, she said.
Clayton County sheriff's deputies and Clayton and Jonesboro police officers worked to clear the area while firefighters and paramedics rescued the victims, she said.
One patient was taken by helicopter to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries. The second was taken by county emergency services to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Clayton County police Lt. Tina Daniel said residents within 200 feet of the gas line were evacuated.
