Arts Clayton would like to remind local youths, and their parents, that its annual Kaleidoscope Summer Art Camp, and Young Teen Summer Art Camp, will be held June 6, through 17, at J.W. Arnold Elementary School, 216 Stockbridge Road, in Jonesboro. The Kaleidoscope Summer Art Camp is designed for first-, through sixth-graders, and the Young Teen Summer Art Camp is aimed at seventh-, through ninth-graders. Participating youths take classes in visual and performing arts at the camp. Call (770) 473-5775.

The U.S. recently announced that Air Force Airman 1st Class Anthony M. Mulero, a 2009 graduate of Lovejoy High School, has graduated from an eight-week basic military training course at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Jonesboro resident, Graciela Mulero.

The Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department has announced it is extending its application deadline for Kids Outdoors Scholarships, to May 31. The scholarships will allow Clayton County students, currently enrolled in the seventh- and eighth-grades, to take a three-day trip, organized by the Parks and Recreation Department, to Jekyll Island, from July 18, to July 20. During the trip, youths will visit the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and Summer Waves Water Park, and take classes offered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia 4-H program. Students must submit essays, along with their applications, that explain why they would want to participate in the Kids Outdoors Program. Clayton County Public Schools has announced it will offer free breakfasts and lunches, for children between the ages of 4 and 18, Monday through Friday, from June 6, to July 1, at Lake Ridge Elementary School, located at 7900 Lake Ridge Circle, in Riverdale. Meals will be offered to people over the age of 18, at a cost of $1.50 for breakfast, and $2.50 for lunch. The meals are being offered as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's "Seamless Summer Meals" program. The school system announced it will release specific hours for when breakfast and lunch will be served later this month. Call (678) 479-0171, for more information.

The White House Academy, Inc., located at 191 South Main Street, in Jonesboro, has announced it will hold a summer camp for area youths from May 23, through June 30. Each week, the camp will be held Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m., to 5 p.m., and participating youngsters can enjoy activities that focus on science, computer programming, business and career development, culinary arts, music and entertainment, fashion and design, health and fitness, and juvenile law. The participants will also play sports and take field trips. The academy will host academic support programs for children in the third- through tenth-grades. The summer camp and academic support programs are free, and open to students who attend low-achieving Title I schools in Clayton County, and who qualify for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Free and Reduced Lunch program.
