Mrs. Lucia Wood Gordy,72, of McDonough, passed away May 24, 2011. She was born in Milledgeville, Ga., to the late Burton Franklin and Lois Lamar Coxwell Wood. Lucia was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James Franklin “Sonny” Gordy, on Feb. 10, 2010 and by a sister, Avis Stevens and a brother, Lamar Wood. She was a 1956 graduate of Peabody High School, and retired after 32 years with the Georgia State Patrol. She was a member of Friendship Presbyterian Church, in Concord, Ga. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Henry County Shrinettes. Lucia enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader, taking girls’ weekends, and mostly spending time with her family, neighbors and friends. Survivors include her children, Gina (Larry Earls) Gordy, of Zebulon, Carl Gordy, of Hampton, Jan (Rick) Levin, of Rex, Curtis (Terri) Gordy, of Griffin; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Frankie Leverett, of Milledgeville; brother-in-law, Bill Stevens, of Milledgeville, and her little dog, June Bug. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 27, at 10 a.m., from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob Matthews and the Rev. Robin Humphreys will officiate. Interment will follow at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Milledgeville, at 1 p.m. Friends may visit the family Thursday from 6 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in memory of Lucia.
