A 5K race will feature runaway brides and skirt-chasers running around McDonough.
Henry County Cancer Services will premier the "Runaway Bride Diva Dash 5K" race/walk" fund-raiser. It is scheduled for June 4, and will be hosted by the Hazelhurst House, located at 77 Sloan St., in McDonough.
The proceeds will be donated to Henry County Cancer Services, said Susan Hoffman, executive director for the Cancer Services organization.
The race will begin, and end, at Hazelhurst House, "traveling down shaded and back roads," said Hoffman.
It will start at 9 a.m., and participants may pre-register, or register the same day of the race, at 8 a.m. The cost is $15 for pre-registration and $20 the day of the race, for participants age seven and older.
"We will line the race up, with the brides up front, followed by the divas, then the skirt-chasers," she explained.
"Male runners are encouraged to participate, we are calling them the skirt-chasers," said Hoffman.
Registration is free for children, six and under, to participate in a "Mini Diva Dash/Mini Skirt-Chasers" race.
Participants will be served a free "healthy" breakfast during registration for the race, and complimentary water will be served throughout the event. Each participant will receive a race T-shirt.
"We are encouraging people to bring their personal flair to the races," said Hoffman. "One tennis team is going to wear tiaras and boas in the race."
Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to compete in the race, she continued.
"Once the race starts, then the one mile Stiletto Strut will begin," she said. The Stiletto Strut race is for participants who prefer to walk the 5K race.
Awards will be distributed to the winners following the races. There are numerous categories, based on age and gender.
"We will have raffles for gym memberships, Arthur Court Pieces, and a Crystal Tiffany Bowl, along with a bridal expo," Hoffman added.
