A Riverdale couple has been charged with murder in the shaking death, last month, of a 4-month-old boy, said Clayton County Sheriff's officials.
Lt. Brian Crisp said Nacole Shavon Cockrell, 27, and James Darrell Bartlett, 32, are charged in the Oct. 21 death of Cockrell's son, James Darrell Cockrell. Crisp said Bartlett is the baby's stepfather. Bartlett's murder and child cruelty charges were bound over to Clayton County Superior Court, Tuesday, after his preliminary hearing. Crisp said Cockrell was arrested at the hearing and faces the same charges. Crisp said the baby died from injuries consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome. According to the arrest warrant, when Cockrell discovered her son was not breathing, on Oct. 19, she refused to get him medical help and would not allow Bartlett to call 911. Bartlett was arrested Oct. 26. Cockrell is set to make her first appearance Wednesday morning in Clayton Magistrate Court. Both are being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail.
