The Clayton County Council Of Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) will be having its Council School Of Information meeting on Nov. 12, at Eddie White Academy, in Hampton, from 9:30 a.m., to noon. Special guest speaker will be Clayton County Sheriff Kem Kimbrough.

Monday, Nov. 14

The Clayton County Library System’s Jonesboro Branch will host “Thanksgiving Readers Theater, Craft” on Monday, Nov. 14, from 7 p.m., to 7:45 p.m. The branch is located at 124 Smith Street, in Jonesboro. Call (770) 478-1720.

Tuesday, Nov. 15

The Clayton County Library System’s Riverdale Branch will host “Thanking Our Patrons” on Tuesday, Nov.15, from 11 a.m., to noon. The branch is located at 420 Valley Hill Road, in Riverdale. Call (770) 472-8100.

Barnes and Noble will host a “Drink and Books” event on Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 4 p.m., to, 6 p.m., at 1939 Mt. Zion Road, in Morrow. Books will be donated to Rainbow Children’s Home, in Jonesboro.


American Education Week is Nov. 13-19, and the Clayton County Educators Association (CCEA) will sponsor its annual event, on Nov. 17, from 4:30 p.m., to 7:30 p.m., at J.R. Crickets, located on Tara Boulevard., in Jonesboro.

Riverdale Middle School, Center of Hope Church, and Mother’s House are hosting a holiday canned-food drive, from Oct. 17, through Nov. 18. For more information, contact Celeste Williams at (770) 994-4045.

The 2011 Michael B. King Spelling Legal-Bee will be held on Saturday, Dec.17, at the National Archives, in Morrow. The spelling contest will begin at 9 a.m. The deadline for submitting registration forms is Friday, Dec. 16. There is no registration fee. The top spellers in the elementary school division, and middle school division will receive $150, and trophies. The second-through-seventh-place spellers will receive trophies, and $100, $75, $50, $25, $15, or $5, respectively.

The Jonesboro High School Academic Team took top honors in the inaugural East Georgia History Bowl at Cedar Shoals High School, in Athens, Ga., held Saturday, Nov. 5. The school will compete in the Georgia State History Bowl, in March.


Clayton State University Health Services (UHS) is offering flu shots for the Clayton State, and surrounding, communities. No appointment is necessary for the shots, which can be administered to individuals, age 3 and older. Costs for shots are: Clayton State students, faculty, staff, and family members –– $15. For the general public $20. The Vaccine Information Sheet and the 2011 Flu Shot Consent form are available on the UHS web site: http://nursing.clayton.edu/uhs/.

The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including online practice tests and tutorials in math, reading, and writing, as well as test-preparation materials for the SAT, ASVAB, GED, TOEFFL, and Occupational Aptitude Tests.
