One of the great truths of God is that He gives us the freedom to choose how we live.
With His help, we can choose to become more like Jesus Christ.
We can choose what we think about. We must be careful how we think. Our lives are shaped our thoughts. Everything starts in our mind, the way we think determines the way we feel, the way we feel determines how we act — so, if we want to change the way we act or feel — we must change the way we think, as Eph. 4:23 says, "To be made new in the attitude of your minds and to put on the new self created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."
Change always begins with new thinking. To grow up spiritually, you have to challenge some old ways of thinking and old values. We can change sheer will power, but this seldom lasts. The Biblical way is better — change the way you think about yourself.
For example, complete the following sentence ten times, and you will know how you think about yourself: "It's just like me to be ----------------"
The question here is, "How do I renew my mind?" Psalms 119: 9-11 says, "How can a young man keep his way pure? living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."
The way you change your life is through the renewing of your mind with the word of God. The more you fill your mind with God's word, the more it transforms your life!
We can choose to depend on God's Spirit, moment moment. John15:4 says, "Remain in me and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit it's self; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit."
A branch is totally dependent upon the vine. We are totally dependent on Jesus, and through this relationship, we can grow as Christians and be a blessing to others. How do we know when we are dependent on God's Spirit? Through our prayer life and Bible study. We must pray continually to God about everything.
We can choose to respond to circumstances the way Jesus would. Do you see the parallels between God's resources and your choices? God uses His Word — We choose to read and study His Holy Bible.
God gives us His Holy Spirit— We choose to depend on the Spirit to lead and guide us through life.
God uses circumstances — We choose to respond correctly. James 1:2-4 says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work ,so that you may be mature."
If we are ever asked one we are witnessing to, "How long does it take to become a Christian?" Our answer should be — only a moment, and a lifetime!
We are reborn instantly, but we grow and develop the rest of our life here on earth.
Would you take a moment and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ?
I pray you will.
