Joyce Mae Goree
Joyce Mae Goree, a resident of Jonesboro for 42 years, passed away in her home on the evening of Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, surrounded by her husband and four of her children.
Joyce was born on May 24, 1939, to Cleo and Beulah Smith. Her parents and her brother, Billy, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Earl, of 37 years, and four brothers, Cleo, Larry, Russell, and Wayne, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her five children and their spouses, Ray and Barbara Staples, of Covington, Kay and Johnny Stewart, of Locust Grove, Ricky Staples, of Jonesboro, Tina and Nestor Feraro, of Jonesboro, and Patrick and Patricia Patton, of Jonesboro. Joyce loved, nurtured, and cherished 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Joyce’s home was her center; her children were her life; her husband was her partner; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her happiness; her neighbors were her confidants; and her friends were irreplaceable.
She accepted everyone and helped many in their hours of darkness. She was a kind, strong, and generous woman, and mentored others up until her last breath. She was an angel on earth and will never be forgotten.
Her family will receive friends at Pope Dickson & Son—Jonesboro Chapel Wednesday AND Thursday, from 6 p.m., to 8 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m., at the funeral home, with Ricky Jewell officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
