Has the Great Healer touched your life? — Jim Bell

Jesus Christ spent much of His time here on earth healing the people of all kinds of diseases; conditions and deformities (remember the man with the shriveled hand? See Matthew 12:9-13).

And then there were those with mental problems, demon possessed. Jesus made these evil spirits come out of them and they were healed. The most well-known account is probably that of the demon-possessed man in the region of the Gadarenes. He was possessed with many evil spirits, and it is significant to note they knew Jesus was the Son of God.

The devil and his angels know God, but many of God’s children do not know Him! Please read this story in Matt. 8:28-34. Jesus could not only heal a person of anything wrong with him physically, mentally or even socially, but He could even raise the dead, He could restore life! Please read the story of Jairus’ daughter in Matt. 9:18-26.

Jesus Christ was the great healer in the Bible, and the truth is, He still is the great healer today! I have often wondered why didn’t all the people of Jesus’ day believe in Him and turn to Him to be saved spiritually? Indeed, why don’t all people today, who hear of Him through testimonies of saved people, the Bible, and great preachers such as Billy Graham, believe?

Why didn’t the religious leaders of His day, who saw and heard Him as He taught and worked His miracles of healing the blind, lepers, the crippled, and even raising the dead, believe? Jesus says in Matt. 13:15, “For this peoples’ heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes.”

Could this be what has happened to many today? Some say today, when they hear the gospel and know in their hearts it is true, and that they should believe and put their faith in Jesus and be saved –– instead, they listen to the devil who has their ear, and they say, “Not today; tomorrow I will make my decision for the Lord.”

Please realize that the more one says no to the Holy Spirit, the still small voice in your heart becomes faint, until you can’t hear Him anymore! Your heart has become calloused and your ears hardly hear, and it is so easy to say “no, not today.”

When one reaches this condition, he or she is in the devil’s hands, and surely headed for the fires of hell! Some in Jesus’ time did believe, notably Nicodemus, either during, or after, their meeting and Jesus’ brilliant answer to his questions. Please study this great teaching of the Master in John 3:1-21.

Jesus Christ was apparently saddened and disappointed at the lack of response from the Jews as He said in Matt. 23:37-38, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate.”

I know He is disappointed with our generation as well, for many today do not hear Him as He calls and do not respond positively to His invitation to come to Him. Instead, they are filled with themselves — “I will do as I please, live as I want and go where I wish to go. This is my life,” they say, “and I will live it to the fullest. I need no one’s help. I can take care of myself.”

So they rebel against God and His Holy Word. First Peter 5: 8b says, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” The devil is devouring lost souls every day, but many still listen to his wily schemes and are caught in his trap.

Has the great healer touched your life? We all need to place our belief and faith in Jesus Christ and receive God’s forgiveness of our sins. As He heals us from sin and death, and we become His eternally, then we learn how to live as He wants us to live and we begin to receive His great blessings of life.

Jesus said in John 10:10, “I am come that they may have life and have it more abundantly.” Life is one of the great concepts of John’s Gospel. Life is Christ’s gift and He, in fact, is Life! He holds out wonderful hope for man and wants the very best for each of us.

We definitely should be encouraged as believers, for God has said in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Our hope and future are secure in our Lord Jesus Christ. If you are not a Christian, please consider believing in Jesus today and having your name written in the Book of life. May God bless you!
