Mr. Rodney G. Simmons, 60, of McDonough, passed away Nov. 21, 2011. He was born in Toccoa, Ga., to Vivian Laverne Holcomb Simmons and the late Carroll Eugene Simmons. He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Pamala Ann Duffell Simmons.

Rodney graduated from the University of Georgia and served his country in the Army National Guard. He was a member of McDonough Christian Church, where he was active in his Sunday school class. He worked for Macon Cigar and Tobacco, and enjoyed fishing, sports and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer (Matthew) Goodwin, of Jasper; grandson, Davis Goodwin; mother, Laverne Simmons, of Toccoa; sisters-in-law, Patti Bradford, of Bishop, Kathy Johnson, of Athens, Debbie White, of Raleigh, N.C.; brother-in-law, Brad Duffell, of Jacksonville, Fla.; mother-in-law, Betty Duffell, of Bishop.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 26, at 11a.m., from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Leslie will officiate. Interment will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery, in Athens, at 2:30 p.m.

Friends may visit the family TODAY (Friday), from 4 p.m., to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Contributions are asked to be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, or Southwest Christian Hospice, in memory of Rodney.
