State officials have given their approval for the Henry Medical Center (HMC) to become part of a larger healthcare organization.
The Georgia Attorney Generals Office has signed off on a partnership between the Stockbridge hospital, and Piedmont Healthcare of Atlanta. The deal was finalized this week, and will go into effect Jan. 1, 2012.
I am very pleased that we have crossed the final hurdle in the lengthy process required to complete the affiliation with Piedmont Healthcare, said Charles F. Scott, president and chief executive officer of Henry Medical Center. I greatly look forward to the day, only one month from now, when HMC will become a proud member of the Piedmont family, and will start to experience the significant benefits to our hospital and our community, that will result from this partnership.
Henry Medical Center, on April 15, selected Piedmont as its affiliation partner after a nine-month process of whittling down candidates. The Federal Trade Commission approved the merger in August. The states attorney generals approval follows months of reviewing documents, and a public hearing in October. The attorney generals office conducts a public review process for all transactions related to acquiring a not-for-profit hospital in Georgia.
The favorable finding by the attorney generals office is the last of several validations that a promising future, as part of the Piedmont system, is on the horizon, said Jeff Mills, chairman of the Affiliation Steering Committee for Henry Medical Center. He said he is excited over what Piedmont Healthcare will bring to HMC, and to the Henry County community.
Becoming a part of this community is something we have been enjoying for years, said R. Timothy Stack, president and CEO of Piedmont Healthcare. He said he looks forward to the day when the partnership with Henry Medical Center will be official.
Henry Medical Center is a 215-bed, not-for-profit community hospital, which has offerings in cardiovascular care, orthopedics, surgery, critical care, womens health, emergency care, and diagnostics.
Piedmont Healthcare, a not-for-profit organization, is the parent company of Piedmont Hospital, in Atlanta; Piedmont Fayette Hospital, in Fayetteville; Piedmont Mountainside Hospital, in Jasper; and Piedmont Newnan Hospital, in Newnan. The Piedmont Healthcare system also includes the Piedmont Heart Institute, the Piedmont Physicians Group, the Piedmont Clinic, physician network; and the Piedmont Healthcare Foundation, a philanthropic entity for private fund-raisers.
