Clayton County police are investigating the cause of a one-car crash on I-675 that killed the driver, Wednesday morning.
Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services personnel responded to the scene just under the Ga. 42 overpass about 11 a.m., said Battalion Chief Jacque Feilke. Feilke said paramedics began treatment immediately.
"They positioned themselves inside the vehicle, while other firefighters began extrication with hydraulic-powered tools," she said.
Both doors and the dashboard were removed to get to the driver, she said.
Clayton County Police Officer Gary A. Syblis said the man was traveling south in the far left lane on I-675, in a red 1993 Buick Lesabre.
The car swerved from left to right and went off the roadway and into a tree, he said. The driver was wearing his seatbelt and the airbags inside his car deployed, said Syblis.
After the driver was extricated, he was taken to Henry Medical Center. Feilke said the man died at the hospital.
His name was not immediately released, pending notification of his next of kin, said Syblis.
