Retail gas prices continue decline this week

The price of retail unleaded gasoline continues its downward slope in the state of Georgia, according to a spokesperson for AAA Auto Club South.

Jessica Brady said Georgia's average unleaded gas price is $3.26 a gallon, compared to last week's average price of $3.35 per gallon. This is a 9-cent decrease.

The nation's average unleaded gasoline price, she said, is $3.41 per gallon, compared to last week's $3.50 a gallon.

The demand for fuel is still staggered as frail economies cause consumers to cut back on expenditures and travel, she said.

"Gas prices continue to decrease as oil prices retreat below $80 a barrel and this trend is expected to continue for quite a while, unless positive news unexpectedly hits the market," said Brady.

Oil prices remain relatively the same this week as economic news in the U.S. and abroad stayed desolate, she explained. The prices fell even more after reports demonstrated China's manufacturing index fell for a third month in a row, while European retail sales decreased in September and U.S. consumer spending continues to lag, she said.

"Crude oil settled Friday [Sept. 30] at $79.20 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange--65 cents less than the week prior," she said.
