If the Stockbridge defense doesn't contain Henry County quarterback Chris Moody (6), it could be a long night for the Tigers in the Region 4-AAA showdown.
OK, for the second straight week, yours truly must step in and do the weekly predictions.
The crystal ball didn’t let me down last week as I went 10-3 on my predictions (shameless self-promotion).
Stockbridge, Dutchtown and Eagle’s Landing each lost, which kept me from having a perfect record.
And, speaking of undefeated records, Jonesboro and Lovejoy will put theirs on the line tonight.
Each should survive, which will make next week’s matchup between the two Region 4-AAAA huge. If each wins tonight - which shouldn’t be a problem - then next week’s game will be for sole possession of first place in the region.
Jonesboro can’t afford to underestimate Mundy’s Mill this season.
The Cardinals needed overtime to dispatch of Riverdale to go 5-0 for the first time in school history. A win over Mundy’s Mill would clinch the Cardinals first winning season since 2008, when it last reached the playoffs.
Lovejoy has won 16 straight regular season games. Its seventeenth should come tonight.
The most intriguing matchup tonight will be the clash between Region 4-AAA foes Henry County and Stockbridge, the two oldest public schools in the county. This will mark the 37th time the two have met, with the series tied at 18-18-1.
This season’s matchup will feature long-time friends and rivals Chris Moody of Henry County and Leon Prunty of Stockbridge. They are considered two of the best quarterbacks in the Southern Crescent.
Both teams should come into the contest with a chip on their shoulder. Stockbridge was upset by Drew last week, and dropped out of the rankings. Henry County had to forfeit its win against winless Ola after self-reporting to the Georgia High School Association that it used ineligible players in the win.
With Moody providing the offensive firepower, and Dalvin Tomlinson causing defensive headaches, look for the Warhawks to escape Stockbridge with a victory.
After starting the season with a 3-0 record, Luella faces the possibility of losing its third straight contest. In the Battle of the Lions, look for the ones from DeKalb County to come out on top.
Here is hoping that Darryl Maxie will be back next week, and I can put my aging crystal ball back in storage.
