Pre-nursing students will learn more about the resources available at Clayton State University (CSU) to help them plan for a nursing career, said a university spokesman.

CSU's School of Nursing will hold its "Pre-Nursing Information Sessions" next week at the university, at 2000 Clayton State Blvd., Morrow, said John Shiffert. The two sessions will be held on Monday, Oct. 10 from 5 p.m., to 6 p.m., in room U272 of the James Baker University Center, and on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 11:30 a.m., to 12:30 p.m., in room B-11 of the Lecture Hall, he said.

"Strategies will be discussed regarding how to successfully prepare for the application process and how to be successful once admitted into the nursing program," said Shiffert.

He said the sessions will be conducted by CSU's Nursing Workforce Diversity grant team and School of Nursing advisors.

Sessions will be open to high school students, university students, parents and CSU faculty and staff, said Shiffert.

He added that the School of Nursing recently accepted a Nursing Workforce Diversity program grant of $1,089,000, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration, over the coming three years.

The goal of the grant is to increase the diversity of the nursing workforce through pre-entry preparation, retention of current students, and cultural competence of students and faculty, he said. A special emphasis with the grant is placed on the recruitment of Hispanic students.
