Seniors ages 55 and older will eat a hearty breakfast and listen to speakers who will discuss health and politics on Saturday, said the senior liaison of the Lovejoy Community Center.
Eleanor Stuart said the "Senior Citizen Breakfast" will take place on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m., to 11:30 a.m. at the Community Center, 11622 Hastings Bridge in Lovejoy.
The event is free and open to seniors in the community, she said.
"I created this event four years ago mainly to get people in the community to come [and] fellowship," she said.
She said the guest speaker will be Marlene Perez, membership coordinator at the Hampton Snap Fitness Center. Participants will be able to get flu shots from representatives of East Marietta Drug Clinic for $25, or they can bring their health insurance, she said. A professional nurse will also be on hand to take blood pressure, added Stuart.
The breakfast will include bacon, eggs, toast, pancakes, waffles, sausages and fruits among other food items, she said. She said the breakfast is sponsored by the Lovejoy City Council.
Stuart said city council candidates for office will also speak, discussing their plans for the city and what they can offer.
She said the senior breakfast event is held every month.
