An 8-year-old girl died Sunday, as a result of injuries she received on Saturday, after being thrown from the minivan in which she was riding, according to Clayton County Magistrate Court records.
Driver, Sambou Nyassi, 30, of Forest Park, has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving, driving without insurance or a driver's license, driving too fast for conditions, seat belt violations, and running a red light.
He is being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail.
Forest Park police said Nyassi was driving a 2000 Dodge Caravan along Old Dixie Road at about 10:16 p.m., Saturday. He drove through a steady red signal at the intersection with I-75, without stopping as instructed, said police.
The Caravan hit another vehicle, fishtailed, then hit a second and third vehicle, according to warrants in the case.
Sallimatou Hydara, 8, was a passenger in the Caravan, but was not restrained, said police. She was ejected and suffered extensive injuries, including severe head trauma. Police said she died about six hours later at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
