Sara G. Lanier

Mrs. Sara G. Lanier, 86, of Jonesboro, passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2011. She was a 62-year member of College Park Presbyterian Church, where she was honored and presented with a life membership to Women of the Church.

Her proudest accomplishment was her work at church, along with others, decorating for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was a member of Eastern Airlines Pilot’s Wives Club, Crossroads Garden Club, Emerald Garden Club, Tara Garden Club, and the IDC of Atlanta (Interior Design Club). Sara loved gardening and flower arrangements, which was evident in the home and garden she lovingly tended. She was married to loving husband, Walter Sidney Lanier, for 63 years.

She is survived by husband, Sid Lanier; sons and daughters-in-law, Hank and Carolyn Lanier, of Cumming, and Gary and Cindi Lanier, of Palmetto; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Floyd “Butch” Johnson, of Colleyville, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Sue Goines, of Blairsville, and Emmett and Shirley Goines, of Milton; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m., at College Park Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jay Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to service time. A reception will follow the service at the church.
