Fund-raiser aims to help breast cancer survivors

A Stockbridge boutique is hosting an event to raise money for breast cancer survivors.

Mercy Medical Supplies and Mastectomy Boutique’s “Love the

Girls Evening of Elegance” fund-raiser is scheduled for Saturday, in the Hudgins Room at the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, located at 1709 Ga. Highway 20 West, in McDonough.

“We will be celebrating breast cancer survivors, and the life and legacy of those gone ahead,” said Jacqueline K. Jordan, owner of Mercy Medical Supplies and Mastectomy Boutique.

In order to reach its fund-raising goal, donations of $75 are being requested for each woman sponsored.

Evening of Elegance will feature dining, entertainment, and door prizes. Breast Cancer survivor, Donna Sparrow, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Sparrow has been cancer free for five years.

The purpose is to collect money for breast cancer survivors, who cannot afford to purchase their mastectomy bras, breast prostheses, or wigs, according to Jordan.

“We’ve had 30 to 40 women, who did not have insurance, call us to inquire about how to get the products,” she said. “We wanted to help improve the quality of life for women who cannot afford their mastectomy supplies.”

Jordan has been in business for three years. She said she opened the business in memory of her aunt, Mary Hawkins, who passed away from breast cancer in 2002.
