Today

The Clayton County Board of Education will hold a special called meeting Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m., at the Clayton County Public Schools Administrative Complex, 1058 Fifth Avenue, in Jonesboro.

Friday, Oct. 21

Dr. John Barge, State Superintendent of Schools, will be the featured speaker at an assembly Friday, Oct. 21, 8:30 a.m., at Mt. Zion High School, located at 2535 Mt. Zion Parkway in Jonesboro.

Monday Oct. 24

The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its scheduled work session Monday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m., at the Clayton County Public Schools Administrative Complex, 1058 Fifth Avenue, in Jonesboro.

Notes:

Navy Midshipman Tiana Williams, daughter of Pamela Williams, of Stockbridge, and Lapell Williams, Sr., of Chicago, Ill., recently completed Plebe Summer while attending the United States Naval Academy. Plebe summer is the six-week summer training program required of all incoming freshmen to the U.S. Naval Academy. Williams is a 2011 graduate of Mundy's Mill High School, in Jonesboro.

Riverdale Middle School, Center of Hope Church, and Mother’s House will host a holiday canned food drive, from Oct. 17 through Nov. 18. For more information, contact Celeste Williams at (770) 994-4045.

Clayton State University Health Services (UHS) is offering flu shots for the Clayton State, and surrounding, communities. No appointment is necessary for the shots, which can be administered to individuals, age 3 and older. Costs for shots are: Clayton State students, faculty, staff, and family members, $15. For the general public, $20. The Vaccine Information Sheet and the 2011 Flu Shot Consent form are available on the UHS web site: http://nursing.clayton.edu/uhs/.

The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including online practice tests and tutorials in math, reading, and writing, test-preparation materials (SAT, ASVAB, GED, TOEFFL, occupational aptitude tests, etc.), online computer classes, and online language-learning classes.
