McDonough’s Job Fair is Friday

The telephones at McDonough City Hall have been ringing off the hook, since the city announced that several employers will be in the Southern Crescent area, offering at least 200 jobs at the city’s annual job fair, this Friday.

Initially, the McDonough Job Fair was mistakenly reported for Saturday, but it will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, said Leslie Balog, executive assistant to Mayor Billy Copeland.

The City of McDonough’s third annual job fair will begin, Friday, at 10 a.m., and is scheduled to last until 2 p.m., at McDonough Presbyterian Church, which is located at 427 McGarity Road.

“We’re expecting anywhere from 800, to 1,000 applicants,” said Balog. She said parking will be on-site, and police will be on hand to handle traffic.

Representatives from AMTRAK, out of Washington, D.C., are scheduled to be among the many companies at the event.

The Atlanta Regional Commission’s Mobile Career Resource Center also will be on-site for the free event. It contains 13 stations designed to allow visitors to conduct online job searches, present and develop resumes and cover letters, use online tutorials, individual assessments, and explore training eligibility and options.

Other companies scheduled to attend include: American Family Insurance, De Wafelbakkers, Norfolk Southern Railway, Georgia Perimeter College, State Farm, Primerica, and Henry County Schools.

Job offerings also will be made in the health-care, education and government fields.

Some of the companies at the fair will require hard-copy applications, while applicants interested in other types of jobs will be able to apply at the Mobile Career Resource Center.

Registration is not required for the job fair. For more information, call McDonough City Hall, at (770) 957-3915.
