The School Council of Mundy’s Mill High School will meet today at 6:30 p.m., in the school’s commons area. The school is located at 9652 Fayetteville Road, in Jonesboro.

Thursday, Oct. 27

Clayton State University’s New York Times Talk will take up the subject of bullying. On Thursday, Oct. 27, from 11:30 a.m., to 12:30 p.m., in room UC267 of the James M. Baker University Center, Assistant Professor of Psychology Sam Maddox will facilitate a New York Times Talk, entitled, “Now you see me, now you don’t: The complex nature of bullying.”

Clayton State University’s Small Business Development Center will be holding a “Starting a Business” class on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m., to noon, at the Griffin Spalding Chamber of Commerce/Griffin Welcome Center, 143 N. Hill St., in Griffin. The cost of the class is $69, and Clayton State students and employees receive a 50 percent discount by contacting Heather Chaney at (678) 466-5100.

Clayton State University Health Services is hosting the Annual Sexual Healing Health Fair for HIV & STD Awareness on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m. The Health Fair locations are in the James M. Baker University Center on Main Street, by Swan Lake, in back of the University Center –– the Lecture Hall, and Laker Hall. University Health Services will be providing free testing for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and HIV. There will be free prizes for those who get tested.

Saturday, Oct. 29

Sunday, Oct. 30

A celebrity basketball event will sponsored by Dion Glover “Hoops for Hope” as part of the stop the bullying tour, Sunday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m., at Riverdale High School, located at 160 Roberts Drive in Riverdale. The featured guests include: Atlanta Hawks players, Josh Smith and Damien Wilkins. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased at the high school. For more information, call (678) 479-2698.


Riverdale Middle School, Center of Hope Church, and Mother’s House will host a holiday canned food drive, from Oct. 17, through Nov. 18. For more information, contact Celeste Williams at (770) 994-4045.


Clayton State University Health Services (UHS) is offering flu shots for the Clayton State, and surrounding, communities. No appointment is necessary for the shots, which can be administered to individuals, age 3 and older. Costs for shots are: Clayton State students, faculty, staff, and family members, $15. For the general public, $20. The Vaccine Information Sheet and the 2011 Flu Shot Consent form are available on the UHS web site: http://nursing.clayton.edu/uhs/.

The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including online practice tests and tutorials in math, reading, and writing, test-preparation materials (SAT, ASVAB, GED, TOEFFL, occupational aptitude tests, etc.), online computer classes, and online language-learning classes.
