Couple charged with child deprivation

A Hampton couple is in the Clayton County Jail, awaiting a first appearance hearing on multiple felonies related to alleged child deprivation, said police.

Clayton County Police Officer Cemetris Williams said Anthony George Irvin, 33, and Tammy Terrell Irvin, 33, were arrested Thursday morning. The parents of five children are being held without bond, pending a first appearance hearing this morning in Clayton County Magistrate Court.

Williams said officials from the Escambia County, Fla., Sheriff's Office contacted the Clayton County Police Department on Sept. 28, in reference to possible child deprivation at a home on Thorne Ridge Trail, in Hampton.

The couple's children had visited relatives in Florida and allegedly gave information that officials said constituted possible abuse within the Hampton home. Clayton police began an investigation that resulted in the arrests of both parents, said Williams.

Anthony Irvin is charged with five counts of contributing to the deprivation of a minor, 10 felony counts of cruelty to children, four counts of felony battery under the Family Violence Act and two counts of false imprisonment.

Tammy Irvin is charged with five counts of contributing to the deprivation of a minor, 10 felony counts of cruelty to children, four counts of felony battery under the Family Violence Act and two counts of false imprisonment.

Williams said on more than one occasion, a child was secluded from the rest of the family without food and water. Police declined to provide specific details on the case.

"This is still an open and pending investigation," said Williams.
