Photo by Curt Yeomans: Frankenstein sits with a witch on the porch of Jonesboro resident B.J. Burrell’s Church Street home, as part of a Halloween display. Burrell’s porch and front yard are filled with several ghoulish characters and scenes.
House of Ghouls
“While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping. As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. 'Tis some visitor,’ I muttered, ‘tapping at my chamber door — Only this, and nothing more.’
— Edgar Allen Poe, “The Raven.”
As Halloween approaches ... The porch of B.J. Burrell’s home,
A haven for ghouls and goners. Witches, both short and tall, are there.
So, too, is Frankenstein’s bad hair. Nearby, a decaying man in a creepy chair.
His spooky nurse discreetly there. Skeleton in rags, greets visitors fair.
They approach, so unaware. Near a tree, a graveyard rests.
Where bodies do not look their best. Newspaper boxes rusted to the core.
There, a single raven. But no Lenore.
As Halloween doth surely come ... People wait to see, the raven mum.
Or simply crow, “Nevermore!”
