Local bakery Incredible Southern Poundcakes will be hosting its inaugural open house cruise-in, Crusin' for a Cure, from 10 a.m., until 4 p.m., Saturday. The event, which includes a bake sale and car show, will take place at Hudson Bridge Crossings in the Walmart shopping center, in Stockbridge.
Organizers said all proceeds of the event go to support CURE Childhood Cancer, a local non-profit dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through research, and patient and family services.
Former Atlanta Braves pitcher, and CURE Childhood Cancer supporter Tom Glavine is expected to make an appearance, from 1 p.m., until 3 p.m., to take pictures and sign autographs. Event organizers noted that Real Housewives star Dwight Eubanks is also scheduled to make an appearance.
"We are so appreciative of Southern Poundcakes and Tom Glavine for their support of our cause, especially during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month," said Kristin Connor, CURE's executive director.
Saturday's open house will include door prizes, a bake sale, as well as games and activities for all ages, according to Incredible Southern Poundcakes proprietor Kathy Shepherd. It will feature live music from Audio, the R&B group formerly known as B5.
Shepherd said the car show will feature new and classic cars, muscle cars, and vintage hot rods. The bake sale will take place at the Incredible Southern Poundcakes bakery, located at 1490 Hudson Bridge Road.
"We're trying to raise as much money as we possibly can to help these kids overcome cancer," added Shepherd. "This is our way of saying come get involved and help us help them."
