Luella at Eagle’s Landing

When, where: 7:30 p.m., Eagle’s Landing Stadium, McDonough

Records, rankings: Luella is 2-0; Eagle’s Landing is 1-0.

Last meeting: Luella won 36-6 last season.

Scouting report: Both teams will likely come into this game on a high. Luella is trying to become 3-0 for only the second time in school history. Eagle’s Landing hasn’t won consecutive games since winning three streak late in the 2008 season. After a big 21-point come-from-behind win at Rutland last season, the Golden Lions will likely have a lot of conference. Eagle’s Landing coach Joe Teknipp said the win was like “standing up to a bully” and refusing to lose. This will be Luella’s final non-region schedule before jumping into games that count towards the playoff.

Jonesboro vs. Mount Zion

When, where: 7:30 p.m., Tara Stadium, Jonesboro

Records, rankings: Jonesboro is 1-0; Mount Zion is 0-0

Last meeting: Jonesboro won by forfiet

Scouting report: Mount Zion actually won on the field with a 7-6 score, but had to forfiet the game after self-reporting it used an ineligible player. This will be the season opener for Mount Zion while Jonesboro defeated Tri-Cities 25-7 last week. Mount Zion must find a way to contend with Jonesboro quarterback Cedric Nettles, who accounted for two touchdown passes last week, and then returned an interception as a defensive back for a score.

Morrow vs. Riverdale

When, where: 7:30 p.m., Southern Crescent Stadium, Riverdale

Records, rankings: Both teams are 0-1.

Last meeting: Riverdale won 17-6 last season.

Scouting report: Both head coaches - J. Livingston (Morrow) and Olten Downs (Riverdale) - are looking for their first head coaching win. Downs was the defensive coordinator at powerhouse Carver-Columbus last season while Livingston is the longtime baskekball coach at Morrow. Both teams were shut out in their season-opener last week. Riverdale moved the football against North Clayton last week, but turnovers proved to be its biggest downfall.

Henry County at Eagle’s Landing Christian

When, where: 7:30 p.m., Commitment Field, McDonough

Records, rankings: Henry County is 1-0; ELCA is 0-1 and ranked No. 2 in Class A.

Last meeting: ELCA won 13-6 last season.

Scouting report: Both teams showed they have the ability to score. ELCA’s biggest problem last week came in special teams when it missed on two two-point conversions and an extra-point kick hit the post. This will be a clash of quarterbacking styles with Henry County’s Chris Moody, being touted as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the state with several major colleges recruiting him. Aaron Spratlin of ELCA is more of the traditional pocket passer, who has offers from several Ivy League schools, including Harvard and Yale. Henry County’s defensive end Dalvin Tomlinson and ELCA’s Justin Thomason are two of the best defensive players in the state.

Stockbridge at North Springs

When, where: 7:30 p.m., Thermopylae Stadium, Atlanta

Records, rankings: Stockbridge is 1-0, North Springs is 0-1.

Last season: Stockbridge won 46-6

Scouting report: North Springs is in the midst of a 14-game losing streak. This will be a homecoming of sorts for Stockbridge coach Kevin Whitley, who coached at North Springs from 2001-02. He compiled a 9-11 record, and the ‘02 squad went 5-5, the last non-losing season the Spartans have had. At North Springs, he coached linebacker Channing Crowder, who recently retired from the NFL after a six-year career with the Miami Dolphins.
