Christians Have The Power Of The Holy Spirit - Jim Bell

I can truthfully witness to you, today, of the power of the Holy Spirit, for I have experienced His power in witnessing to lost people –– those who are not Christians.

I do not say this to you to brag, but, in fact, it is substantiated in results, in what actually happened. I have had the pleasure and privilege of witnessing to hundreds of people over the years, due to my being in several witnessing programs sponsored our church and through my own ministry of witnessing, in what is known as lifestyle witnessing, during the last thirty years.

Lifestyle witnessing is what one does on his own initiative; that is, sharing the gospel with anyone who the Holy Spirit brings to you, or presents the opportunity of telling a person about the saving power of our Lord Jesus Christ. I have witnessed to people I met walking in my community, in stores, or while traveling.

Many of you already know of my ministry at the Atlanta Airport where I go as often as possible and talk to our service men and women about their relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. I have seen the power of the Spirit at work in the lives of those with whom I am privileged to share, and certainly felt Him in my mind and heart.

Sometimes, an opportunity to witness is marred many interruptions, from crying babies, to loud televisions and phone calls, and at times, persons continually asking questions and making remarks which have nothing at all to do with presenting the gospel.

The witness has to answer the questions and then come back to where he was in the presentation. At times, I must admit, I have, for some reason, not been able to present the gospel as clearly as I would like to, and even with all the interruptions and questions, I have seen the power of the Holy Spirit as He convicted the heart of those listening and brought them to an understanding of the gospel and gave them the desire and courage to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior!

Recently, I was at the airport to talk with as many soldiers as possible within my limited time, and as I introduced myself to two of them and began thanking them for their brave service and sacrifice, I was aware of all the noise of many people all around us. This can be a very disrupting thing and can affect the continuity of what one is saying. As usual, I asked the question: "If you died tonight and stood before the Lord and He asked you, ‘Why should I let you into my Heaven? What would you say to Him?'"

This question can get all sorts of answers, but usually it tells the spiritual condition of the person. One soldier said, "I was just in church yesterday, and I felt real good to be there. I know I don't go to church as often as I used to, but I try to be as good as I can."

I told her going to church would not get her to heaven and being good, in itself, would not work either. I went on to say the way one gets to heaven is having a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It's really as simple as ABC: A –– We must admit our sin. Do you realize you have sin in your life? She said, yes, of course. I asked the other soldier if he knew he had sin in his life and would he admit it? He said, yes. B –– One must believe in God. Do you both believe in God? They did, so I explained the C. We must confess our sin to God and ask His forgiveness.

The Bible says in Romans 10:9, "If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead you will be saved." I quickly said this means we simply pray and ask Him to forgive our sins. I told them I would like to lead them in a prayer to do this, and asked if they would pray with me as I say a phrase and they just repeat it after me.

In this case, they both wanted to pray. I told them they must mean it with all their heart, and they agreed. We had prayer together, and I knew the Holy Spirit gave them courage to say each phrase after me, sincerely and truthfully. I said, "Now you have made a foundation of faith in God, and begun your relationship with Him. May God bless you both and keep you safe."

As a Christian, are you using the power of the Holy Spirit to share the gospel with others? I pray you will, and if so, you will get a special blessing!

Lord, please grant every Christian the courage to share his faith in Jesus Christ.

Amen.
