Clayton County police said Tuesday they do not expect to charge anyone else in the accidental shooting Saturday of a 6-year-old boy.
Anthony Clark died Saturday at Southern Regional Medical Center after suffering a gunshot wound to the head, said Clayton Police Lt. Tina Daniel.
The boy's uncle, Benny Ezekeil Kimbrough, Jr., 18, of Riverdale, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct and three counts of cruelty to children in the second degree. He is being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail on the most serious charge, and has a $35,000 bond on the remaining counts.
Daniel said no one else will be charged.
Some details surrounding the shooting are not being released to avoid jeopardizing the integrity of the investigation, police said.
";Benny Kimbrough had control of the gun when it went off,"; Daniel said. ";It appeared he was playing with the weapon. This is definitely accidental.";
There were three other children in the room at the time of the shooting, said Daniel. No one else was reported injured. Police did not immediately release the identity of the gun's owner or the kind of weapon it is.
Daniel said the death was preventable.
";This was an unfortunate, horrible accident that could have been prevented,"; she said. ";Gun owners need to keep guns in a secure location and out of the reach of children to prevent a situation like this from happening.";
